The laws set across the world for drinking, producing, purchasing, and distributing absinthe are fairly vague. Depending on where you are located, you may or may not be able to buy absinthe in a bar. The banning that occurred in the early parts of the 20th century really hurt the public sales of absinthe. A lot of places were no longer legally allowed to sell absinthe. This would lead to various bootleggers starting to sell absinthe since it was illegal but that’s not the same as going to a bar.
The Bans
Many countries were banned almost a century ago. The ban would mean (for most places) that drinking and selling absinthe was forbidden. Most countries already had laws in on importing alcoholic beverages as well. However, things would change a little bit after a while with this ruling in place.
Lifting the Bans
After a long time, people started realizing that absinthe doesn’t really cause damage to you and it can’t make you go crazy. Some people still believe that high thujone content is still dangerous though. This is why the rules have changed a little. In many areas, absinthe was unbanned but with restrictions. Depending on where you live, the maximum thujone content will vary but in most places there is a limit now but there wasn’t before.
You can buy absinthe in bars in some areas but it depends on where you live. Absinthe is not the most popular drink in most bars anymore but if you are located in Switzerland or France it may be the exact opposite of that statement. Depending on your nation’s laws with absinthe, you may be able to buy absinthe in the bars but you may not as well. |
