If you are looking for the answer to this question, it is most likely that you heard from somewhere else that absinthe is dangerous and it can make you go crazy. There may be some truth to that but if you dissect the facts you will understand that drinking absinthe is not dangerous at all.
Early 20th Century
The rumors and gossip that the much beloved absinthe drink was dangerous to consume began in the early 20th century. There were some people that held this belief in the 19th century as well but just when the century turned people started to believe it even more. The incident in 1905 with the man who killed his wife while intoxicated (and he had drank absinthe on the night of the murder) is why the hate for absinthe got stirred up to begin with. The facts are that the man only had a few drinks of absinthe and he was already severely drunk before he had it. However, everyone blamed this on absinthe.
The Truth behind the Facts
The truth is that there may be a little issue with the thujone content in absinthe. Before, the thujone level was pretty high and thujone is a drug (similar to THC or LSD) so it could be dangerous to consume a lot of it. However, the absinthe that is made now has low enough thujone content that there is nothing to worry about.
The most dangerous thing that can happen is that you drink too much absinthe and since it is high in alcohol you are putting yourself in dangerous – the same goes for any other hard liquor drink though |
