Deceiver is a movie which revolves around a detective, Phillip Braxton (played by Chris Penn), that utilizes a polygraph test in order to interrogate and pressure James Walter Wayland (played by Tim Roth) for information. Detective Phillip Braxton believes that James Wayland has information about the death (murder) of a prostitute (played by Renee Zellwegar) and he will stop at no extent to get that information.
Throughout the interrogation, James Wayland begins to talk about the events that took place the night of the prostitute’s death. The first thing which he recalls is that he was drinking absinthe the night of the prostitute’s death. This is where the other detective, Edward Kennesaw (played by Michael Rooker) speaks about a very strange story. The story was about a man who was high from drinking absinthe and his behavior and actions he took while under the influence of absinthe.
This movie revolves around a myth or belief that absinthe can cause people to go crazy and ultimately be capable of killing their loved ones. This movie, Deceiver, is the ultimate depiction of what people imagine the high of absinthe to be like. This is just one of many movies which utilize people drinking absinthe as part of the storyline. Using the concept of someone drinking absinthe in a movie opens the door for various events to occur from the absinthe high. The director could move in the direction of hilarity, the person going into a psychotic rage, and much more. |
