In the movie Dracula, the use of absinthe played a major role on the events which proceeded from drinking it. This was definitely one of the biggest movies to release in the early 1990’s and was a major hit. The fact that it displays absinthe in it shows how popular the drink really is. In this case, the drink is displayed as a dangerous beverage and it portrays the legend of how drinking it can make you psychotic.
Glass of Absinthe
A glass of absinthe was shared between Mina Murray (played by Winona Ryder) and Dracula (played by Gary Oldman) in the 1992 film ‘Dracula’. This led up to many outrageous events occurring shortly after the consumption of the absinthe. It would make sense that the director was attempting to use the belief of absinthe being dangerous and making you crazy in the movie.
It’s unbelievable that absinthe has become so popular over the years. From the creation of the recipe in 1792, to the banning of it in many countries across the world in the early 20th century, it has stayed very popular. Absinthe has become a legend and just recently various countries have started to unban it. With the presence of absinthe in Dracula, it really depicts the opinion that people have on the green fairy. Not only was the movie great but because of the history and beliefs behind absinthe, it added that extra special touch to it. |
