Those that are new to the exquisite alcoholic beverage named absinthe will need to learn how to drink it properly. There is a certain way which you must drink absinthe in order for you to get the full impact and for it to taste perfect.
The Original Drinking Method
The method which has been used for many years is to have it in combination with both sugar and water. The sugar will sweeten up the drink a bit because the wormwood contents and other ingredients make it a little bitter. The water is used in order to dilute the amount of alcohol in the drink.
Recipe
The main way of going about mixing together everything is to set a sugar cube on a spoon and coat it with ice cold water. You will want to have around three to five times the amount of water as to the amount of absinthe in the drink. Make sure that you use a slotted spoon though. Then take the spoon and hold it over the glass which already contains absinthe. Allow the cold water to dissolve the sugar cube and mix together into the glass and combine with the absinthe that is already in it. During this time frame, the mixture will go through the ‘louche’ effect which causes the absinthe drink to look cloudy.
These are all traditional methods though. There are many absinthe drinks which already are sweetened so you do not need to add any sugar. Some may argue that you can’t match the flavor of the original absinthe made with just the perfect measurements but the absinthe available today still tastes delicious. |
