The laws and regulations for absinthe are continuing to change all across the world. Almost a century ago, many countries were banned from producing, distributing, buying, and consuming absinthe and a lot of countries in Europe were banned as well. However, the laws are starting to change. The government is realizing (after various tests) that absinthe is not really that dangerous.
Thujone
It is thought that thujone is the main problem in the absinthe drink. Therefore, the government has decided that if the thujone level is limited, everything will be alright. Therefore, the Europe regulation for absinthe is set at 10mg/kg for thujone content in absinthe. This is rather fair as most absinthe contains that measurement but there is some (especially the stuff that was bootlegged under the name ‘la Bleue’) original and high quality absinthe that has higher amounts of thujone in it that would be illegal based on the rulings.
All Through Europe
All through the continent of Europe you can purchase and drink absinthe with no legal problems. Everything is back to the good old days where you can sit back and enjoy a bottle of absinthe once again. All of the myths and tales that got passed around of how absinthe can make you go crazy were proven wrong in tests and now absinthe is available once again to the general public as a legal alcoholic beverage.
As the founder of absinthe, Europe is the home of the drink and it is only right that it is legalized. Now there are various bars, cafes, bistros, and more that contain the magnificent green drink to consumers just like it once was. |
