You can die from drinking too much of anything. You can over hydrate your body from drinking too much water and it could be fatal. Now, if you were to look at just drinking a little too much, the simple answer is no. dying from drinking too much absinthe would be very rare. Although, dying from drinking too much absinthe or binge drinking could happen. As well, there are some episodes which may occur negatively to people who drink a lot of absinthe.
The Most Popular Case
The most popular case that absinthe has been related to is the case of Vincent Van Gogh`s ear. Van Gogh was a man who used to drink way too much absinthe to the point where it was unhealthy. One night, he drank too much absinthe and it lead to him going into epileptic seizures and he cut his own left ear lobe off. This was all to blame from his addiction to absinthe.
The Worst Case
The worst case that drinking absinthe has ever caused actually lead to murder. There is a case which is usually referred to as being the ‘Absinthe Murder’ because of how it occurred. Jean Lanfray was intoxicated one night in 1905 and he had just a few glasses of absinthe and that night he brutally killed his wife. This is what ultimately led to absinthe being banned even though his intoxication was to be at blame and not the two drinks of absinthe he had.
Everything is okay for you in moderation but if you drink way too much absinthe (just like anything else) you will see some negative effects. If you just keep yourself safe by drinking a fair amount at each sitting, there shouldn’t be too much to worry about. Not many people will run around blaming wine for people committing murder and absinthe should be the exact same way. |
