In 2001 a psychology masterpiece was put together and released on the big screen. The movie, From Hell, stars many popular names such as Johnny Depp as Inspector Frederick Abberline and Heather Graham as Mary Kelley. The movie revolves around Jack the Ripper and how London police officers and detectives are trying to solve the murders that were credited to his name. The main character of the move is Inspector Fred Abberline (played by Johnny Depp) and his role in the movie is very intriguing.
Not only is Fred Abberline the main man trying to solve the Jack the Ripper murders but he holds some demons of his own. Fred Abberline is a man who is addicted to both Laudanum and absinthe. The two substances are what Fred Abberline lives for and craves regularly. This is the addiction which he must feed while on the hunt for more evidence to solve the murder cases at hand. The behavior of Fred Abberline and the actions he makes are all to be left in the hands of the drink which he is addicted to – absinthe.
This is just one example of movies using absinthe as a drink. From Hell was a brilliant movie which awesomely depicts a determined Inspector Fred Abberline who gets tied up in the case with his addiction to absinthe. |
