Absinthe was created by Doctor Pierre Ordinaire in 1792 but nothing really happened with the recipe until five years later. In 1797, the doctor ended up selling the recipe to Henri Louis Pernod. When Henri Louis Pernod bought the recipe, he could already see the potential in it hitting popularity everywhere; he started production of absinthe immediately and in large quantity as well.
History Of Production
Henri Louis Pernod, his son, and his good friend Daniel Henri Dubied all worked together to open a facility to manufacture the drink in large quantity. The group also opened the first ever distillery for absinthe as well. The facility that was used was located in Couvet, a town in Switzerland. The quantity only started out at about six litres of absinthe per day but it grew rather quickly. After a few years, it was around five hundred litres of absinthe per day and when it became really popular it was being produced in quantity as high as tens of millions of litres every single day.
Absinthe all started to kick off in 1797 and over two centuries later it is still just as huge as it once was. It’s amazing that after the drink was banned in many countries that it got unbanned almost a century later and is still just as popular. Absinthe has become a legendary alcoholic drink and is one that people will never forget or stop enjoying. |
