A lot of people wonder if both pre-ban and post-ban absinthe is the same. The Pernod Fils brand have become very popular over the amount of time that absinthe has been in production but when buying vintage absinthe you have to know what to look for. Both pre-ban and post-ban vintage Pernod Fils absinthe has become a rarity and can be expensive but there is a difference between the two.
The Difference
Pre-ban Pernod Fils absinthe was made in facilities located in Pontarlier, France. Up until the ban, production stayed in France but after the ban was in place, it moved. In 1918, Pernod Fils opened a facility in Tarragona, Spain. All of the absinthe which was made in the new facility would be classified as post-ban Pernod Fils absinthe. There is a difference in the drinks themselves too though.
The recipe that was used for pre-ban absinthe was different than what it became for post-ban absinthe. The way that the absinthe was created in the manufacturing facility changed severely. Measurements of ingredients changes as well. Most of the ingredients stayed the same but with even a minor measurement displacement it lead to a major difference in the end result of the drink
The better absinthe would be produced pre-ban and any absinthe lover would know that the absinthe made in France is a lot better than the absinthe made after the ban in Tarragona. . |
