The absinthe that is made in the United States may be a little different than the absinthe made in France, Switzerland, and various other countries overseas. While the recipe is pretty much the same, the equipment used is the same, and everything is pretty much identical to the production overseas, it is a little bit different. Of course it is real but there is a difference between American absinthe and non-American absinthe. A lot of American absinthe is from the original Pernod Fils recipes or similar recipes from hundreds of years ago even.
The Difference
There have been some studies done to look at absinth that was made before the ban and American absinthe that is made today. From a sample extracted from each bottle, the chemical ingredients of the alcoholic drink were reviewed. The alcohol level, thujone level, and much more are similar to the absinthe made a long time ago in different countries. The main difference could probably be the thujone level. The United States has set a limit on the thujone content level and some absinthe from a long time ago surpasses this limit. Some American absinthe is not real though and is an attempt at replicating absinthe from a while ago but removing the thujone in it and essentially ruining the drink.
There is not much of a difference between absinthe in the United States and the original absinthe that was made centuries ago. The absinthe in the United States is real and is not fake absinthe. There is not really such thing as fake absinth unless it is an attempt to create it with completely different ingredients. There could be a poor recipe which gives low quality and bad tasting absinthe but all bottles of absinthe are real. |
